Stop Smoking Program




<p>Studies indicate that for the average smoker it is a daunting prospect to quit smoking. If you want to stop smoking and fear that your willpower is not that great, you might consider joining a stop smoking program.


Any program that refuses to make known its methods, or who prescribe any form of medication or injections without making the details of the content of this medication known should also be avoided. Any program that is any good will provide full disclosure of its treatment methods.


A lot of these stop smoking programs are run on the same principles as the Alcoholics Anonymous programs, with the people who lead the programs having had considerable experience in assisting people giving up smoking (and might also be ex-smokers themselves). One such group is Nicotine Anonymous. The American Lung Association, Health Department and American Cancer Society also sponsor such programs. If you are not located in the USA, do a search on your local search engine for similar programs in your own country.


Stop smoking programs are run by trained counselors. The best stop smoking programs include both individual as well as group counseling and therapy. Therapy is also combined with a medical checkup since it is designed around both your physical and mental health.


Before joining any such program make sure that the program will fit your personality and your requirements. You should feel comfortable with the methods that they use and should make sure that their methods are ethical. Avoid programs that charge high fees or promise instant results with no effort from your side! However attractive such a program might seem, you will probably only lose your money. To be brutal about it - it does take time, effort and patience to give up smoking and any program that promises instant miracles (especially combined with a high cost) should be approached with caution.


Sop smoking programs are normally spread over a period of 2 weeks. During this period, trained counselors conduct four to seven sessions, the duration of which ranges from 20 to 30 minutes. The duration of the program or the sessions can be modified based on the needs of the participating group.


A stop smoking program helps you understand the problems that you will face when you stop smoking; it also tells you how to cope with them. Another important feature of such a program is that it provides you support and encouragement, without which it might not be possible to give up smoking.


Join a program only if you are feeling comfortable with it and if you know that it will stand by you through your time of quitting smoking.
