Solar power component manufacturer and distributor RWE SCHOTT Solar, Inc. (RSS) recently announced the installation of a new 52-kilowatt (kW) solar electric system at Chromeworks, Inc., a specialty dental laboratory in Chico, CA.

"We estimated how big a system would need to be in order for it to be cost effective, and it was clear the available roof space was not only too small, but half of it faced north, which really cuts into a PV module's efficiency," said Ericson Solar president Matt Ericson. "We suggested a carport to carry a little more than half of what the system would need and RSS engineered it for us."
According to RSS, the photovoltaic (PV) system, which was designed by RSS and installed by Ericson Solar of Placerville, CA, incorporates two arrays, one on the roof of the building and the other atop a parking lot carport.
